Reading Strategies

Strategies

These are all of the things that a good reader does. Children are not born knowing these things and must be taught them. Some of the reading strategies that you will teach your child in the Burton Reading program are:

  • It must always make sense.
  • It must always sound right.
  • It must always match the letters.
  • You must always go left to right.
  • When you see a word you know, you say it.
  • You should sound like you are talking.
  • If you make a mistake, you must stop and try to fix it.
  • You must always say exactly the number of words you see on the page.
